I tested the solar charging capabilities and battery life of this vent fan by completely depleting the battery and then putting it out in the sun for a day with the fan switched on. The moment the sun hit the panel, the fan turned back on. The fan ran all day and also charged the battery at the same time. On my test day, the sun went down at 6PM and the fan ran until 2 AM as measured by an air speed data logger. While the fan does not make it through the night, that is still an impressive runtime (8 hours) from just solar power in winter time.Pros:-Straightforward wiring with DC jacks for the solar panel and vent fan.-As mentioned above, impressive charging capabilities and battery life.-Comes with everything you need to set up the fan, including a generously long cord.-It seems like the fan can draw power directly from the solar panel since the fan runs faster when there is sun on the panel.-It seems well built for the price, and the fan pulls an impressive amount of air.Cons:-The instructions are sparse, and there is no straightforward way to mount the fan. It doesn’t have any mounting holes, as the holes that are there are covered with a plastic plate. I’m getting my shed in about a month, so I’ll do my best to update this review once I figure it out.-The mounting for the solar panel is awkward, with the suggested method being to mount the pivoting stand to a surface. I find that the screws that hold the angle of the panel aren’t strong enough to keep the panel in place, so I certainly wouldn’t trust them out in the weather as the sole thing keeping the panel in place. It would have been nice if the solar panel had some additional mounting holes or mounting brackets to firmly fix it to a surface. I will need to develop my own solution to attach it to the roof of my shed.-The fan only runs at one speed, which is pretty high. It would be nice to have a few speed options to optimize run time. I would prefer to have a slower fan run 24/7 than a fast fan that stops during the night when humidity is highest.-It doesn’t come with any alternative charging methods, so if there is no sun there is no way to charge the battery.-The battery assembly has no indicators on it whatsoever, it is just a white brick with power inlet and outlet. It would be nice to have a battery % indicator (even a rough one) and at least a charging indicator.Overall, I think the pros outweigh the cons, and I’m happy with the vent fan. I think I will be able to make it work for my needs, but I hope that they can make a version 2.0 with improvements.
